Last week has been a dark time for Android. Two bugs in one week.
On Monday it was ‘Stagefright’ that shook Android users all around the world and by Wednesday another bug was discovered which is apparently able to target Android devices running versions 4.3 through 5.1.1, the current release.
According to Security service Trend Micro’s engineer Wish Wu:
“We have discovered a vulnerability in Android that can render a phone apparently dead — silent, unable to make calls, with a lifeless screen,”
This vulnerability can be exploited in two ways: either via a malicious app installed on the device, or through a specially-crafted website but it can be fixed simply by restarting your phone.
The high-profiled security glitches have prompted some major criticism of the operating system in recent days. Update your phone’s software in the coming days to avoid being targeted by threats like this.
