Founder and Head of the Edhi Foundation, one of the largest non-profit social welfare organisations in the world. Together with his wife Bilquis Edhi, he has been running the Edhi Foundation in Pakistan for six decades. The foundation operates free nursing homes, orphanages, clinics, women’s shelters, food kitchens and rehabilitation centers and owns the world’s largest ambulance service.

Known for: Philanthropy, social work, asceticism and humanitarianism.

Awards: Lenin Peace Prize, Nishan-e-Imtiaz, Ahmadiyya Muslim Peace Prize, UNESCO-Madanjeet Singh Prize, Gandhi Peace Award, Balzan Prize and Ramon Magsaysay Award.
